191. MissionCast – Potato Drop at the Festival of Sharing

Society of St. Andrew potato drops are popular with youth and adults.  For this MissionCast Steve videoed the potato drop that was a part of the Festival of Sharing, held at the Missouri State Fairgrounds, in Sedalia.  Congregations also enjoy the satisfaction of distributing 42,000 pounds of potatoes to food pantries in their area. 190. MissionCast – Youth at the Festival of Sharing

Festival

The Festival of Sharing is held every year on the third Saturday of October, at the Missouri  State Fairgrounds in Sedalia.  This year the MissionCast is highlighting the youth involvement at the Festival of Sharing.  Previous MissionCasts cover all of the activities of the Festival of Sharing.  You can search for other Festival of Sharing MissionCasts by putting the word “festival” in the search window at the bottom of this page.  Most, but not all youth, attending the Festival of Sharing participate in Youthfest which begins with worship Friday night.  Lodging is provided by area church on their floors.  Saturday is a full day of hands on mission service.  For more information about Youthfest or the Festival of Sharing call the Office of Creative Ministries (573-474-7155) and ask for Terri Williams or email her at williams@umocm.com

189. Creation Care Trip to Guatemala

The Missouri Conference Creation Care Committee is sponsoring a vim team to Guatemala designed to learn about creation care in the country as well as to participate in a tree planting project with local farmers.  Office of Creative Ministries staff persons, Carol Oliver and Terri Williams, are co-leading the team with the help of long-time Guatemala resident Ron Cahill.  Ron Cahill is interviewed in this MissionCast to let participants know what they can expect.  The team is filling up so call for your place on the team as soon as possible.  Call the Office of Creative Ministries at 573-474-7155 or email Dora Thackery at thackery@umocm.com.  The cost of the trip is $2000.

188. MissionCast – Sarah at the Global Village – Heifer International

The Heifer International Ranch in Perryville, Arkansas uses volunteers of all ages. Sarah Strohmeyer learned about volunteering at the Ranch at the Missouri Annual Conference and applied to serve. After being commissioned on Sunday morning at Holden United Methodist Church she set off for Arkansas. She is serving as part of the team that provides educational experiences for youth through the Global Village. Youth spend the night in the Global Village to learn about global hunger and poverty and what Heifer International is doing to change the world.

187. MissionCast – Della Lamb Kids Choir at Windsor UMC

The Della Lamb Kids Choir delighted the Windsor community as they performed on a Sunday afternoon at the Windsor United Methodist Church.  Della Lamb, located in Kansas City, offers hope and assistance to low-income  people of all ages.  Programs are designed to create self-sufficiency through education, job training, and support services.  Their goal is to build each client’s self-esteem, self-reliance, self-worth, independence and sense of ongoing security.  The kids you see in this MissionCast attend the Della Lamb Charter School.  To learn how you can support this ministry call them at 816-842-8040 and visit their website at http://www.dellalamb.org.
