To celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Black History month we are featuring three episodes from the Best of MissionCast.

Every year St. Luke United Methodist Church, in Columbia invites the community to breakfast for their “Poor Man’s Breakfast”.  And then in the evening the community of Columbia participates in a candle light march to St. Luke United Methodist Church for worship.  Click on the picture to see how this annual event unfolds.

We then go to Kansas City where St. James United Methodist Church always celebrates both Black History Month and the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in a variety of ways.  Click here to view another of the Best of MissionCast.

Finally we go across the state to First United Methodist Church, in Webster Groves to listen in on a month-long series held last year called “Conversations About Religion and Race.”  For information about having this conversation in your church call the church at 314-961-4133.

The Missouri Conference Values Team reviewed a new program designed to initiate conversations on religion and race in congregations.  Instead of organizing a workshop on how to implement this program in local churches the team decided that it would be better for a congregation to actually use the program and tell other congregations about their experience.  First United Methodist Church, in Webster Groves, with great success, piloted this new program for our conference.  This MissionCast is designed to give you a taste of what it was like.  Rev. Michele Sue Shumake-Keller will be sharing her congregation’s experience in detail during one of the workshops at Annual Conference.
