394. MissionCast – Rock Bridge High School & Grant Elementary School Partner to Fight Hunger

HaitiRock Bridge High School students have partnered with Grant Elementary School 4th graders to raise money to purchase animals for impoverished families through the Read to Feed program of Heifer International. This is how it works. Rock Bridge students share information about Read to Feed with the 4th graders. The 4th graders sign up to read books for Read to Feed. Each high school student partners with a 4th grader for whom they find sponsors who agree to pay so much per chapter that their 4th grader reading buddy reads with a maximum of $40. The money is used to purchase animals through Heifer International. This is just one of the fund raising projects of the new Heifer International Club at Rock Bridge High School. For information about starting a club in your high school or if you would like to sponsor a 4th grade reader you may contact club leader, Elliot Bones, at elsobo600@gmail.com. For more information about Heifer International go to heifer.org

390. MissionCast – Walking Normally For First Time – Ludhiana Christian Medical College

HaitiImagine hobbling around or being carried for nine years and then having surgery and the very next day starting walking like all your friends. This is the story that Kara Myers relates in this MissionCast. She met a nine year old girl in one of the pediatric wards at the Ludhiana Christian Medical College. Before surgery her deformity caused her to walk on tippy toes on one of her feet. The day after surgery she was standing flat on that foot for the first time in her life as she began her month long physical therapy. Imagine the difference this will make in her life.
Kara Myers from Grace United Methodist Church in Lee’s Summit and Rachel Sapp (shown several times in this MissionCast) from Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church in St. Joseph just returned from India where they learned about the Ludhiana Christian Medical College started by a missionary woman over 100 years ago to train women nurses and doctors. It is now one of the leading medical colleges in India and admits both men and women.
To learn more about inviting Kara or Rachel to share with a group in your church you may contact Rev. Max Marble, Executive Director of the Ludhiana Christian Medical College Board USA. He may be reached at Marblelcmc@gmail.com

380. Baby Grace Ministry – Buckner UMC

HaitiMeet Joyce Wheeler who dropped out of High School when she became pregnant. She truly has found grace at Baby Grace. She shares how the ministry has been a huge help to her through the last 6 years during which time she has married, finished her GED and has three wonderful children.
Baby Grace Ministry was born at the Buckner United Methodist Church in response to the needs of young mothers of their community. Through the ministry young parents receive parenting education as well as diapers, clothing, bedding, toys and books all donated by contributing members of the community. Everything they received is bundled up with a lot of spiritual blessings and a great deal of love. For more information go to www.babygrace.org. You can donate to the ministry online on the website or you can donate through your local church since the Baby Grace Ministry is listed as a Missouri Conference Advance Special.
