390. MissionCast – Walking Normally For First Time – Ludhiana Christian Medical College

HaitiImagine hobbling around or being carried for nine years and then having surgery and the very next day starting walking like all your friends. This is the story that Kara Myers relates in this MissionCast. She met a nine year old girl in one of the pediatric wards at the Ludhiana Christian Medical College. Before surgery her deformity caused her to walk on tippy toes on one of her feet. The day after surgery she was standing flat on that foot for the first time in her life as she began her month long physical therapy. Imagine the difference this will make in her life.
Kara Myers from Grace United Methodist Church in Lee’s Summit and Rachel Sapp (shown several times in this MissionCast) from Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church in St. Joseph just returned from India where they learned about the Ludhiana Christian Medical College started by a missionary woman over 100 years ago to train women nurses and doctors. It is now one of the leading medical colleges in India and admits both men and women.
To learn more about inviting Kara or Rachel to share with a group in your church you may contact Rev. Max Marble, Executive Director of the Ludhiana Christian Medical College Board USA. He may be reached at Marblelcmc@gmail.com

337. Best of MissionCast – Furnishing Hope – The Word at Shaw United Methodist Church

Haiti

The Best of MissionCast: “They have never been treated with such dignity…” Keith Scarborough, pastor of The Word at Shaw United Methodist Church, in St. Louis, was speaking to us about the homeless women who come to his church looking for furniture with which to furnish their apartments. The women receive more than furniture….they receive hope. Thus this new ministry, coordinate by Joleen Mayfield, at the Word at Shaw is called “Furnishing Hope.” It is a partnership ministry with the Shalom House and Green Trails UMC along with some help from other area churches. The ministry is for women who have completed the course at Shalom House and are ready to graduate to an apartment of their own. Picking out furnishing at The Word at Shaw is like going to Dillard’s or Ikea.
