215. Methodism Moves To Missouri – Old McKendree Chapel – New McKendree Youth

Old McKendree Chapel located in Jackson, Missouri is the first Methodist church built west of the Mississippi River and likely the oldest Protestant church still standing west of the Mississippi.  It is the site of the first camp meeting, the first class meeting and the first congregation in Missouri.  The first session of the Missouri Annual Conference was held in the newly built church in 1819.  It is named after Bishop McKendree who was the fourth Methodist bishop and the first Methodist bishop to have been born in the United States.  He preached at a camp meeting on the site the year before the church was erected.  Old McKendree Chapel is open daily from dusk to dawn and is available for special events and services.  This MissionCast was taped Sunday morning as the New McKendree United Methodist Youth conducted a sunrise service.

Pathways United Methodist Church in Springfield, Missouri provides housing to homeless women in their community. Sometimes they even manage to get one of their women in permanent housing.

211. MissionCast – Super Sale – Kimberling UMC

For years Kimberling City United Methodist Church has been having a supersized garage type sale that they call “Super Sale.”  The whole church is used setting up different departments in different rooms.  There is the furniture department, clothing department, electronics department, crafts department and much more.  People from miles around put it on their calendar making for long lines the day it begins.  This year it is being held on April 6 and 7 so if you are in the area stop by and make a purchase.  All proceeds are used by the United Methodist Women for mission outreach.

207. MissionCast – Seeds of Hope – St. Luke’s UMC, Kansas City

St. Luke’s United Methodist Church has rehabbed a house to make it a “home” for their transitional housing ministry.  The project has involved over a hundred volunteers who donated over 1700 hours of labor as well as community organizations and businesses that donated things like air conditioners and water heaters.  The congregation tells about this mission outreach project in this MissionCast.

We want to thank Frank Stormer, member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, for producing this MissionCast and we want to commend Mission Coordinator, Sue Love, and the whole congregation for providing transitional housing for their community.

205. MissionCast – Country Festival Store – Midway-Locust Grove UMC

country storeMidway-Locust Grove UMC does the Festival of Sharing up right by getting every member and age group in the congregation involved.  In this MissionCast Marjorie McFann tells about their annual Country Festival Store.  Other congregations organize the making of a different kind of Festival of Sharing kit each month.  Many churches go out and purchase the materials for the kits in bulk and have them available on Sunday morning for church members to purchase.  That is how Midway-Locust Grove UMC organizes their Country Store.
