192. MissionCast – VIM to Haiti – Nora Jones, Team Leader

VIM Haiti

Rev. Dr. Nora Jones, pastor of Samaritan United Methodist Church, in St. Louis led the first Missouri Conference Earthquake response VIM team to Haiti.  Her team served on compound of the Methodist Church and School in Millier, which was located at the epicenter of the earthquake.  MissionCast interviewed Nora at Samaritan UMC where she told about her VIM team’s experience.

 

If you would like to join or lead a VIM team to Haiti just call the Office of Creative Ministries as speak with Audrey Phelps.  (Phone: 573-474-7155 / Email: phelps@umocm.com)  Our teams serve at the direction of the staff of UMCOR and the Methodist Church in Haiti.  We anticipate that many VIM teams from Missouri will be needed to help rebuilt Haiti over the next ten years.  You may also help financially by sending your contributions through your church using the designation:  UMCOR Haiti Relief #418325.  Or you may contribute on line at gbgm-umc.org/umcor

188. MissionCast – Sarah at the Global Village – Heifer International

The Heifer International Ranch in Perryville, Arkansas uses volunteers of all ages. Sarah Strohmeyer learned about volunteering at the Ranch at the Missouri Annual Conference and applied to serve. After being commissioned on Sunday morning at Holden United Methodist Church she set off for Arkansas. She is serving as part of the team that provides educational experiences for youth through the Global Village. Youth spend the night in the Global Village to learn about global hunger and poverty and what Heifer International is doing to change the world.

187. MissionCast – Della Lamb Kids Choir at Windsor UMC

The Della Lamb Kids Choir delighted the Windsor community as they performed on a Sunday afternoon at the Windsor United Methodist Church.  Della Lamb, located in Kansas City, offers hope and assistance to low-income  people of all ages.  Programs are designed to create self-sufficiency through education, job training, and support services.  Their goal is to build each client’s self-esteem, self-reliance, self-worth, independence and sense of ongoing security.  The kids you see in this MissionCast attend the Della Lamb Charter School.  To learn how you can support this ministry call them at 816-842-8040 and visit their website at http://www.dellalamb.org.

186. MissionCast – VIM Costa Rica to Blue Springs – First UMC, Blue Springs

Blue Spring has been sending mission teams to Costa Rica for years.  This year they did something new.  The received a team of Costa Ricans to their church and community.  Jack Marker tells about the experience in this MissionCast.

185. MissionCast – Lake Creek Campmeeting Since 1834 – Lake Creek UMC

When at the Lake Creek United Methodist Church they say, “We’ve always had campmeeting,” they are not kidding.  Are there any other Methodist programs in Missouri that have been running continuously for 176 years?  Since 1834 the Lake Creek Campmeeting has been reaching out to their community to provide Bible School for their children and stirring preaching and Bible study for their youth and adults. Brent Hampy and Dan Page who started attending campmeeting as infants share the story of the Lake Creek Campmeeting in this MissionCast.   We want to thank Kevin Hoehns for providing us with the video footage of this year’s vacation bible school at campmeeting.
