29. Bishops’ Katrina Recovery Appeal

Katrina Recovery SignOn Thursday and Friday, September 6 & 7, United Methodists from across the country received a Katrina update from the Bishops’ Katrina Recovery Appeal Task Force.  Bishops and church leaders from the Louisiana Conference, the Mississippi Conference and the Alabama-West Florida Conference shared information about the recovery thus far and what has yet to be done to help United Methodist congregations back on their feet.  Eight persons from the Missouri Conference were on hand to celebrate the past and look to the future.

19. Ryan Oetting – 2007 Summer Youth Workcamps

ryan oettingRyan Oetting, president of the Missouri Conference Council on Youth Ministry, was interviewed about the 2007 Summer Youth Workcamps.  We caught up with Ryan in Caruthersville, Missouri, where the youth were working on new homes for people whose homes were destroyed during the tornado which leveled most of the town last year.  This year the Conference Youth Workcamp program took Missouri youth to Alabama and Texas as well as to Caruthersville, Missouri.  In each location they helped people recover from the disasters that had torn apart their lives.  All in all, over 800 persons participated in the 2007 workcamps.  For more information about the Missouri Conference Youth Ministries go to http://www.moumethodist.org/page.asp?PKValue=844.

18. New Madrid Earthquake Drill

Karen BensonA 3-day multimillion-dollar drill involving thousands of emergency response personnel in four states was recently held to simulate a response to the projected New Madrid Earthquake. For this episode of MissionCast we interviewed Karen Benson at the Missouri Emergency Operations Center at the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency in Jefferson City.  Behind her you will see some of the 200 persons gathered at the Emergency Opperations Center.  Karen Benson serves as the Missouri Conference Disaster Response Coordinator for the United Methodist Church.

13. Mozambique Cyclone – Missouri Response

Aeroporto UMCCarol Kreamer and Tony Bevins (pastor at Carl Junction) just got back from Mozambique where they saw first-hand the destruction brought on by the recent cyclone.  Through interviews with church leaders in Mozambique, conducted by Carol and videoed and translated by Ezy, this MissionCast tells the story of pain and loss as well as gratitude for the help sent by the Missouri Conference.  A special offering will be received during the Annual Conference memorial service for the disaster response and recovery..  You may receive a special offering in your local church and bring a check made out to the Missouri Conference for this offering.  This MissionCast has been posted a few days early for those who would like to use it during a Sunday morning service.  If you will be projecting MissionCast be sure and use the high resolution edition.
