126. School of Christian Mission

School of Missions

The Cooperative School of Christian Mission is sponsored each year by the Missouri Conference United Methodist Women and the Missouri Conference Creative Ministries Team.  Nancy Mountain, a member of the Creative Ministries Team, serves as the dean of the school.  The Mission Education focus this year was in three areas:  1.  Sudan, 2.  Native American Survival and 3.  Food and Faith.  The 2009 school drew a diverse group of students from all ages.  This MissionCast gives some of the highlights of the school.  Make plans now for attending the Cooperative School of Christian Mission next year during the last weekend of July.  For more information go to the Missouri Conference website.  (www.moumethodist.org)

.
A much longer video (DVD) will be produced and will show much more of the school and the school activities of adults, youth and children.   The video will be available from the Office of Creative Ministries.  If you would like a copy of the longer DVD send $3 to:  Office of Creative Ministries, 3009 David Drive, Columbia, MO  65202.

123. A Church That Tweets

Trietsch UMC

When our family moved to Texas after I was appointed to serve as the director of the South Central Jurisdiction Volunteers in Mission program, the church that welcomed us and helped us move in was Trietsch United Methodist Church, in Flower Mound, Texas.  So I was interested when the UMTV video this week was about Treitsch.  The church preaches the theology of twitter, encourages their members to tweet and even bring their phones to church. MissionCast thanks UMTV for the use of this video for this week’s MissionCast.

122. St. Paul UMC Gets A New Roof – Wesley & First, Jefferson City VIM Project

St. Paul UMC

The men of Wesley United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church, in Jefferson City teamed up to put a new roof on St. Paul United Methodist Church, in nearby New Bloomfield, Missouri.  The two churches took to the New Bloomfield roof after having completed a Habitat for Humanity home in Jefferson City.  The St. Paul United Methodist Church members prepared lunch for the men on each day of this two day project.  Dr. Arnold Park, pastor, and members of the congregation were very appreciative of this neighborly volunteers in mission outreach.
If your congregation is needing to reach out and is looking for a volunteer in mission project in Missouri you can contact Jeff Baker, at the Office of Creative Ministries.  (baker@umocm.com or 573-474-7155)  If your congregation is needing to reach out a little further somewhere else in the United States or the world contact Audrey Phelps, at the Office of Creative Ministries.  (phelps@umocm.com or 573-474-7155)
