Boy

This video used by permission from UMTV-United Methodist Communications, is about Creation Care.  In particular it is about planting trees.  Riverside United Methodist Church, in Riverside, Illinois, scheduled a tree planting day during which the congregation planted 1,000 trees in their community.  It was a way of beautifying their community as well as caring for creation.  The Missouri Conference Office of Creative Ministries will again sponsor a Creation Care Day that will take place on Saturday, March 20.  Place this day on your calendar and explore ways that your congregation can care for creation.

135. MissionCast – Christ Community UMC Community Garden and Food Pantry

For MissionCast, click the picture or one of the links below to view or download the video.

Christ Community

Christ Community United Methodist Church, in the heart of St. Louis, is reaching out to their community by providing garden plots for individuals to grow food for themselves and by providing food through their emergency food pantry.  They also use their community garden for growing food for distribution through their food pantry.  A growing number of churches in the Missouri Conference are turning to this kind of green outreach ministry using portions of their church lawn to feed people rather than simply growing grass.  If your congregation is doing this we would like to hear about it.  Let us know by adding a comment at the bottom of this MissionCast page.

You can read about the Christ Community United Methodist Church garden ministry in the August 7, 2009 issue of the Review, which is the Missouri Conference Newspaper.   You can go to the electronic edition of the Review by clicking the link below.

For MissionCast, click the picture or one of the links below to view or download the video.

Russia

Audrey Phelps, Volunteers in Mission Coordinator, at the Office of Creative Ministries, recently led a volunteers in mission team to Voronezh, Russia.  Voronezh is the site of the only camp for the new and emerging United Methodist Church in Russia.  When the camp was purchased by the church it was in very poor shape.  The Missouri team worked to improves the facilities for use by the church.  There is still a lot of work yet to be done.  If you think your congregation would like to send a team to work on the camp please contact Audrey by calling her at the Office of Creative Ministries (573-474-7155) or emailing her at phelps@umocm.com

We are grateful to Matt Miofsky, pastor of the Gathering UMC, and Mike Wondell, pastor of New Covenant UMC,  who traveled to Voronezh on behalf of the Office of Creative Ministries to scout out the project.  They both are planning to lead VIM teams to Russia next year.  If you would like to join either of their teams please call Audrey as well.

133. MissionCast – Health Care for the Uninsured

For MissionCast, click the picture or one of the links below to view or download the video.

Clinic

Providing health care for the insured is an important ministry.  Years ago the Misouri Conference, through the Office of Creative Ministries, helped get a dental clinic for the children of uninsured families started in McDonald Clinic.  That clinic has branched out to Neosho and is currently helping community leaders in Nevada start a dental clinic for children of uninsured families.

.

A previous MissionCast tells about that dental clinic which is located in Anderson, Missouri.  You can view this MissionCast by clicking on of the link below:

This week’s MissionCast is a reformated version of an earlier MissionCast that tells how a United Methodist Church near Los Angeles started a health care clinic in their church for uninsured members of their community.  We are thankful to UMTV (United Methodist Communications) for the use of this video for our MissionCast this week.

The First United Methodist Church in West Plains is looking into setting up a clinic something like this.  If your congregation is already involved in such a clinic please let us know.  You may email Max Marble at marble@umocm.com.
